Chuuzer Mobile App
Client Overview
Chuuzer is a mobile application that gives a fun, easy way to give and get personal feedback through the use of poll voting and comments!
The Challenge
I took on a client project with other designers with the goals to evaluate an app, identify key areas for improvement, and visualize recommended changes. Organization background and goals were provided— they wanted to know how well the existing platform was working for users so that they can make essential changes to improve the overall experience for primary users and set it up for official launch and implementation into the Apple iOS store.
The Solution
Our design team implemented cognitive walkthroughs with the app and primary user research with real users to find common themes and insights, for app improvement. We created interactive prototypes in tandem with documentation of recommended changes, to send to the client, Chuuzer and their development team, for implementation.
My Roles: User Experience Designer, UX Researcher, UX Design Team Member
Duration: 1 week
Tools: Figma, Sketching, Zoom, Google Sheets/Excel
Research Processes: Cognitive Walkthrough, Contextual Inquiry (Primary User Research), Low-fidelity Sketching, Digital Prototyping
The Process
Primary Research & Insights
To kick off the project, our design team tested and completed cognitive walkthroughs for the primary tasks, as listed in the project background provided by Chuuzer, to better understand user needs and pain points within the existing iteration of the app. We walked through every little step required to complete each primary task and documented changes and recommendations based on issues found, to improve the user’s experience while doing so.
Keeping in mind the findings from the cognitive walkthroughs, our team drew up a Primary User Research Protocol with the intent to further gain insights about usability improvements and possible recommendations through conducting user interviews and contextual inquiry with actual existing and new users of the Chuuzer app.
Finalizing the data and insights gathered from the Cognitive Walkthroughs and User Interviews, our team began to sketch up user flows and wireframes for changes to the existing app.
“Our primary goal is to improve the usability of and add functionality to Chuuzer’s existing app by gathering insights on what is missing, what else would be beneficial, and identifying opportunities to better improve overall app experience that would bring value to their users.

Prototyping and Documentation
Added Feature 1 : Group, Post, and Comment Modification
Users indicated that the app has a lack of flexibility and freedom, referring to the modification of groups, posts, and comments.
This theme emerged in both interviews with new users and long-term existing users
This change allows users to modify, view, and delete what was once permanent in the app, and allows for more control and efficiency when using the app— for example, users can modify groups instead of making new groups to add new members.
Added Feature 2 + 3 : Poll-Engagement Indicator, and Voting System Change
Based on the Walkthroughs and User interviews, a common recommendation was given : “Users need a way to see results of the polls—a fast, and easy way.”
This theme emerged in both interviews with new users and long-term existing users, with the new user advocating more strongly for this feature.
Users also voiced a need for a change to the previous voting system, which was comments-only.
These changes allow users to easily view final results from poll votes, view poll engagements, and easily vote on a poll. These added features allow for ease of use and voting efficiency when using the app.
Conclusion
Next Steps
Follow up with Client
Usability Testing and User interviews
Prototype more features within the app to be usable
Redesign Onboarding Screens
Continue tests with new users to find further points of improvement
Conduct more interviews to solidify findings
Key Takeaways
App has a lack of flexibility and efficiency of use
Visibility of certain aspects within the app are inconsistent and difficult to see
Based on walkthroughs with both the existing and new user, they seemed to enjoy the more open-forum style of answers, as opposed to purely multiple-choice, click to answer polls. (They prefer HAVING the ability to respond to polls with text)
What I Did
Evaluate the usability of an existing design using a set of pre-defined criteria
Conduct research in order to understand pain points and opportunity areas
Synthesize research findings to identify meaningful insights
Prototype changes to the functionality, interactions, and visual design of a digital product (Figma Prototype)
Visually present design recommendations that support key goals (Figma-Annotated Prototype)
